Sometimes the lifestyle part of ‘millionaire lifestyle’ is not as exciting as you might imagine. For hard working sports stars, actors and musicians, their appearance in the limelight might suggest that all they do is hang around in glamourous locations doing exotic things with fascinating and beautiful people. But there is often a far less glitzy back story to those glossy presentations. The day job for people who work hard enough to enjoy significant success is usually a lot less sparkly – however they earn their money. But the new breed of multimillionaires who make up the top…

  • The Full Tilt IPO Journey Begins

    Stephen McLean
    24 Apr 2015 | 7:50 am
When I started out running the IPO I had no idea whether or not it would be successful. At the time, around 2006, most of the major poker events tended to have large entry fees and small to medium sized fields. I somehow got it into my head that I wanted to run a poker tournament with a 1,000 player field and after a brief chat with my friend Nick O’Hara a plan was formed. Before I knew what had happened I had booked a huge hall in the RDS (Royal Dublin Society). The deposit for the venue left me broke, so marketing was executed on less than a shoestring budget, but the IPO was going to…

Grabbing his backpack and a purple Titleist hat, Adam weaved through the drafty convention room that housed the World Series of Poker Circuit Event at Horseshoe Hammond. Misreading your hand really sucks. Particularly at a final table. Not to mention when your opponent has top pair and you have the stone cold nuts. Just ask Mikalai Pobal — he was three-handed at EPT Barcelona with a million Euros up top for first place. A million! And he couldn’t be bothered to re-check his hole cards in this confrontation with Joni Jouhkimainen: Pobal, it is worth noting, went on to win this tournament, an impressive bounce back after such an amateurish mistake. • California Online Poker Bill AB431 Passes Committee With Unanimous Vote

    John Mehaffey

California online poker bill AB 431 unanimously passed the Governmental Organization Committee on Monday. This is the first time an online poker bill has ever left committee in the state. AB 431 is sponsored by Chairman Adam Gray. The bill is essentially a placeholder. AB 431 needed to pass out of committee before the May 1 deadline or it would have died for the session. AB 431 is a shell bill with few details AB 431 offers no specific framework for how online poker would be regulated. It does not address bad actors, whether the horseracing industry could participate, the amount a licensing…

Gambling is an issue most lawmakers prefer to steer clear of. Because of this, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise so few federal lawmakers have come out in support of Internet gambling legalization over the years. The list of past and present adherents has about three names on it: Barney Frank (retired), Ron Paul (retired), and Joe Barton (R-TX). The good news is that this cuts both ways, and the list of lawmakers publicly calling for a prohibition of online gambling is similarly short. The reason for this apathetic approach to the issue is the complexity surrounding gambling.

  • It’s A Start: Delaware Online Poker Revenue Up 26% Last Month

The Delaware Lottery reported revenue numbers for March. Poker rake was $44,636 last month. That was up 26 percent over February. Some of that increase can be attributed to the longer month. On a per diem, poker was up 15 percent. Delaware’s regulated online poker network appears to have benefited from the interstate liquidity sharing agreement with Nevada. That deal went into effect on March 24 and gave Delaware players access to cash games, sit and gos, and tournaments offered by WSOP.com in Nevada. For the first time since its November 2013 launch, Delaware online poker players have…

Many saw this coming because the disgraced site hadn’t processed a single player cashout request in over a year. But to finally see Lock Poker close, while owing players upwards of $15 million, is somewhat surreal. After all, I was kind of hoping that this whole not-ring-fencing-player-deposits thing had died out with Black Friday and the Everleaf network. Nevertheless, the flood gates have opened and it’s open season on Lock and anybody who had anything to do with the site. One of the…
  • Allen Bari tries bashing Daniel Negreanu’s Twitch Session

    22 Apr 2015 | 5:04 am
Allen Bari is one of those poker players who should probably have his Twitter privileges revoked because he doesn’t have much positive to offer. Case in point: he took to bashing Daniel Negreanu’s recent Twitch session, where Kid Poker played high stakes mixed games. The cyber conversation started with Bari slighting Negreanu’s mixed-game experience, to which both Negreanu and Doyle Brunson had something to say. Here’s a look at what went down on Bari’s Twitter: Bari: NOOOOOO.. I was hoping the day wouldn’t come that someone who has played tens of hours of…
  • Daniel Negreanu scoops $50k while on Twitch

    Jeremy Olson
    21 Apr 2015 | 12:53 am
Just recently, we discussed how Daniel Negreanu has been active on Twitch, much to the delight of many poker enthusiasts. And while the Twitch session was great, the only complaint is that Negreanu was forced to play fake-money games due to his Las Vegas residence. One thing I suggested – as did many other people – is that he visit his hometown of Toronto to play some real-money games at PokerStars. And perhaps Negreanu heard everybody’s requests because his latest broadcast was from a Toronto hotel room. Specifically, he was grinding in $400/$800 mixed games with some heavy…

For well over two years now, online poker players have complained that Lock Poker is not processing cashouts. This led to the obvious speculation that Lock is in trouble and may not be financially solvent enough to process withdrawals. And now, the inevitable seems to have happened, with Lock Poker no longer being operational. While the website is up and the software download is still available, you can’t access games any longer from the software. Other non-working parts of the Lock operation include their signup form and live chat function. Assuming you try to sign up for the site,…

  • Trying to figure out hand ranges

    StuartYoung
    27 Apr 2015 | 10:02 am
Hello all, I'm currently playing in the micro stakes and have been trying to narrow down opponents hand ranges, however the hands that get played played seem to be anything including low pairs, unsuited connectors suited cards, and any hand containing an ace, king, queen or Jack. on top of this they seem to be played from any position. So I'm really struggling with narrowing down the range. It gets even harder since it's very rare to see a showdown, since as soon as a picture card hits, someone bets heavy on it and everyone else generally folds. Does anyone know of anything that could help me…

Hello! I am a tournament player at Carbon poker, trying to increase my bankroll as quickly/safely as I can. Currently have a total of about $136 solely from playing free rolls and $1.10s, no deposit. I cash in roughly half the $1.10s that I play, have won one. Played a $3.30 last night for the first time and again managed to run pretty deep (46th of 784). For whatever reason, I have been far less successful at cash games and I don't enjoy them as much, so the $1.10 --> $11 satellites have attracted my attention as a potentially faster-money making endeavor. However, I have never played in…

My main problem playing poker is this: On any given day, but especially when I'm tired or bored, I don't go to the table with the right attitude. I lack focus, I don't have the right expectations and I'm there only to win, not to play. This also happens a lot after playing well or very well. This very frequently poisons my game and makes it less fun to play. I don't play for money (i.e. I don't put money into the sites I play) but I have squandered between 300 and 400 US$ in winnings from freerolls etc. like this through sheer thick-headed, stubborn, tilted attitude that I didn't or couldn't…

California’s legislature took a step forward toward allowing online poker in the state on Monday. The Committee on Governmental Organization in the California State Assembly considered AB 431, passed a bill that provides a framework to legalize and regulate online poker in the state. Previously, there had been opposition to the bill — sponsored by committee Chairman Adam Gray — from tribal interests in the state. But there was good news near the start of the hearing for iGaming proponents. Gray is offering amendments. Says amendments move opposition to neutral. Pechanga,…
