    Dan Michalski

So poker people are buzzing again about the promise of California for online poker. It’s true what RJ gaming reporter Howard Stutz says, that this market represents something of a holy grail for the liquidity dependent. But that’s also the reason I’ll stick by my assertions that California needs about half a country to go pro-poker before they get real about making a deal. Sorry for the buzzkill … but here’s a little Vegas Grinders outtake, recorded about three months ago, in which Andrew, Dave and I address whether or not online pokerers should be packing up their bags and…

Its wording has yet to make it to the media. This was an interesting potential compromise. There is certainly reason to pursue sites that are operating illegally in the U.S., at least at first glance. Several problems arise by allowing this type of bill to move forward. Ever since her deep 2011 WSOP Main Event finish (62nd, $131k), Amanda Musumeci has remained one of the most-popular players in poker. And being plastered all over Bodog Poker for a while certainly didn’t hurt her popularity. But a deeper look inside Musumeci’s life shows that it’s more than just about sponsorship deals and big tournament scores. As CalvinAyre’s Lee Davy discovered, she also takes care of her grandmother and has the deep desire to get more involved in charity. Beyond this, she’s a bit of a conspiracy theorist, believing that the US government…

And unfortunately, it appears as if this incident was the catalyst behind Vanchiro’s death last night. Staying at his father’s home in Queens, New York, Vahciro reportedly jumped out of a second-story window. As the New York Times reports, his father says that he woke up and was disoriented when he jumped out of the window. The fall caused the former poker pro to suffer severe brain…

The show’s producer, Todd Anderson, cited 888poker’s sponsorship as a huge reason why his program will be coming back. Here’s an excerpt from Anderson’s latest blog post: Good News!! Several people have gotten away with online poker cheating over the years without so much as a legal slap on the wrist (see Russ Hamilton, Jose Macedo). But now that the world is slowly moving closer towards a regulated online poker environment, the police take these matters far more seriously. Such is the case in Denmark, where a former high stakes poker grinder is reportedly being investigated for cheating fellow players. According to iGaming.org, the player’s name hasn’t been released yet. However, police have offered that the player is 32 and won an EPT event. If we’re…

Terrence Chan is no stranger to the ring since he’s been involved in mixed martial arts bouts in the past – successfully we might add. But more recently, he engaged in a different type of fighting sport by stepping into the boxing ring. Judging from what he tweeted, it seems like the poker pro wasn’t 100% aware that he had a fight coming up: so apparently I’m fighting in an amateur boxing match this weekend. That’ll be fun. He accepted the amateur boxing match bout anyways, going barefoot against a taller opponent. We won’t spoil the ending for you, but…

PokerStars has just introduced a new feature for its flop-based cash games and tournaments – an all-in equity display, showing players’ percentile chances of winning the pot once all the chips are in the middle. This has been a controversial move, with some arguing that it will make it tougher to find an edge, while others feel that it adds excitement and will actually encourage recreational play. It’s my opinion that everyone is missing the point. All-in equity is, in most cases, a deceptive statistic. Displaying it doesn’t really matter, then, except in terms of the…

There’s no better feeling in the game of poker (except for winning) than getting to the headsup match to decide who takes down a championship. It’s such a grind to fight through an entire poker tournament, and once you’ve actually done it and made it to the heads up match, it’s when your style of play has to be completely adjusted, and you need to have a game plan to not only attack your opponent, but also to know where you stand on big hands. Hands are valued differently in heads up play, and on top of that, you need to be aware of your chip stack size, and how to…

    8 Dec 2014 | 11:51 am
Its been a few weeks since my last post.  Between moving to a new house and the holidays I didn’t have enough time to play DFS as well as write about it.  I have been studying and playing almost every day with mixed results. A lot of the resources I use to construct my lineups give me Fanduel picks as well as Draftkings.  I noticed a decent amount of disparity between certain player’s salary on Fanduel versus Draftkings, so I officially signed up for Draftkings and started playing cash games there as well.  A lot of these players I was on the fence about rostering on Fanduel,…

Friday night I got worked (-$50). The reason I put so much money on the line was because I had never been so confident in any lineup. To refresh your Friday memory, The entire T-wolves starters were out, as well as many Bulls players. I decided to heavily stack backups for both teams. This meant including players like Shabazz Muhammad, Anthony Bennett, Aaron Books, Zach Lavine and Andrew Wiggins. The logic goes; if these backup players get big minutes then they will perform at a very low salary. Well I woke up to find that the majority of them underperformed. So what happened? A post from…

Yesterday was the first time I felt 100% confident with my lineups. Every single player had a great match up and was projected to see around 35 minutes of action. I wagered a total of $50 across 15 different cash games, even threw in some $5 games. Although I didn’t get swept, the day turned out to be a losing day (-$18). I wrote about the three players I would roster in every single lineup. As predicted, Dieng saw big minutes and performed well, producing 32.4 FDPs. The other two, well that’s a different story. I was very confident in my Iman Shumpert pick. He was coming off a 46…
