Here’s your November Nine… If you’re into 20-ish youthful looking white guys, this 2014 WSOP Main Event final table is for you! The 2014 WSOP Main Event played down to the November Nine on Monday. The headliner? Mark Newhouse. Newhouse (or “Stiles” as everyone will eventually call him) you may remember made the November Nine last year, busting ninth. We’re not into hyperbole, but what Newhouse has done is genuinely impressive. Newhouse’s feat is the most impressive accomplishment in poker since two-time Main Event champ Dennis Phillips won…

Swedish. With only 27 remaining in the 2014 WSOP Main Event, the question galvanizing the poker community is: “Which players that I onlly marginally care about will make the November Nine?” Ok, the cupboard isn’t that bare. There are some legit “good for pokers” in the field (we’ll address this later in the week with our annual Good, Bad, Meh for Poker column). • Jerry Yang’s 2007 WSOP Watch is drawing Big Bids

    Jeremy Olson
    22 Jul 2014 | 3:43 pm
Seven years ago, Jerry Yang was on top of the poker world after winning the 2007 WSOP Main Event along with $8.25 million. Unfortunately, Yang failed to pay some of his taxes on the winnings, resulting in the IRS seizing his Main Event bracelet and a Corum Admiral’s Cup watch. The latter, which was given to players who made the 2007 final table, has been put on eBay by a seller named “polareyezed,” which is pretty close to Phil Ivey’s Full Tilt screen name, “Polarizing.” Okay, so I’m not even close to implying that Ivey would waste his time trying to…

By now you have probably heard that high stakes poker pro and Malaysian “businessman” Paul Phua was busted in connection with an illegal World Cup betting ring. Phua, who’s earned almost $2.9 million in poker tournaments, was arrested by the FBI after he and seven other men were found to be running a betting operation out of Caesars Palace villas. The information that’s come out after Phua’s arrest is not exactly the fluff that you hear about him from WSOP press releases – such as how he’s “a big league investment banker from China who is one of…

How do you know when you’ve achieved the ultimate form of poker fame? How about when somebody compares Michael Jordan to YOU! Such was the case in a recent Grantland piece by Bill Simmons entitled “God Loves Cleveland.” The article discusses how much LeBron James has raised his basketball IQ in the past few years, even approaching the level of the ultimate basketball genius himself, Jordan. Then Simmons manages to insert this gem, which comes out of nowhere as a pleasant surprise to poker players everywhere: It wasn’t just Jordan’s ability to flip geometry and gravity…

Many people heard about Daniel Negreanu’s runner-up finish in the 2014 WSOP Big One for One Drop, which earned him $8.3 million. But sometimes it’s hard to visualize the ramifications of what such a big score means to a poker pro’s bottom line. So if you’re having trouble with this, you don’t have to worry because Negreanu was more than happy to lay it out. The 39-year-old tweeted all of the buy-in, winnings and profit information from his 2014 WSOP campaign, which you can check out below: Events 32 Cashes 9 Hours 292 Buyins $1,233,000 Payouts 8,545,408 Profit…

Last week, Daniel Negreanu collected $8,288,001 for finishing second place in the 2014 WSOP Big One for One Drop. Following his finish, many were wanting to know how much action Negreanu had of himself. Unlike the champion, Dan Colman, who refused to do interviews or speak with the media after the tournament, Negreanu is more of an open book on the matter. The 39-year-old reportedly had 44% of his action, which would give him $3,646,720 of the prize. And this means that his investors earned a collective $4,641,281 for fronting $560k of the $1 million buy-in. Another interesting aspect of…

I do this move a fair amount of the time when i have kings or aces and my opponent has more chips than me to tilt them. I take around 40 seconds to call the all in then 'BAM' pocket ace's. 'ahhhh you weren't expecting that were ya'. Sometime's this method backfires horribly and they suck out and comments pop up in the chatbox like 'haha you deserved that' and maybe i did. I'll let it be known though i would never pull this move on someone who has less chips because it's just really unfair. Do you remember your first casino experience? I do. It was my 21st birthday. My parents took me to Las Vegas as a birthday gift. It wasn’t exactly a Sin City experience since I was with family, but it was incredible nonetheless. I can tell you that I ate a lot of food, so much so that my one pair of jeans I brought with me barely buttoned up on the plane ride home. I can also tell you that my first spin at the Roulette wheel was $25 on the number 21. And I can tell you that I lost. Bottom line? Everyone remembers their first casino experience. • Playing Satellites vs. Buying Into the Event

One of the biggest questions about major poker tournaments, or even poker tournaments that you’ll find running online will be whether or not you should simply buy-in to the tournament, or if you should play in the satellites in an attempt to win your way into the event. This is obviously a popular question for a few reasons, but one of them is because players simply don’t know what the best decision is. One of the easiest ways to help break down your decision is by looking at your opinion on the tournament going into it. What does this mean exactly? Well, let’s look at it…

In honor of the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event finally getting down to its final table, we are going to do a nice strategy piece on how you should approach playing the final table. We’ll look at things as a short stack (under 20 big blinds) middle stack (30-45 big blinds) or a deep stack (45+ big blinds). The general idea behind playing at a final table is to pick your spots, play your position and take advantage of weaknesses that you see from other tables at the players. Players are going to show how often they defend their blinds or simply fold a very, very wide range of…

It took quite a while, actually 13 hours or so to be exact, but we finally have the “November Nine” for the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event. When play began yesterday there were 27 players left in the action, and Martin Jacobson from Sweden was sitting with a huge chip stack of 22.335 million. He had a ton of competition looking to dethrone him from the top though to start the day, so it was definitely a day to watch in poker. We also saw a man in Mark Newhouse make some poker history in his achievement as well when all was said and done with the final day before the…

Going into today’s action, there are only three tables and 27 players left in the play, and when all was said and done yesterday it was Martin Jacobson from Sweden who was sitting with a huge chip lead that he’s hoping to carry into the final table and possibly use to help propel him to a championship that would add up to some life…
