This hand was haunting him and he did not know if he made the right play or not so he asked me for my opinion. Here is the situation: We are now one table from the money and Paul has an average stack and is in the big blind. One player goes all-in and Paul has him covered. Now the biggest stack at the table (a good young tournament player) flat calls. Since he is the chip leader he could have a wider range of hands to call the first player’s all- in move.

  • Questions persist about Phil Hellmuth’s Knowledge of UB Cheating Scandal

    Jeremy
    19 May 2013 | 10:58 am
Nearly two weeks after UB superuser scandal tapes were released, people are still talking about the matter. And one of the biggest questions on the poker world’s mind is exactly how deep Phil Hellmuth’s involvement goes. The tapes practically absolved Hellmuth from directly knowing about Russ Hamilton’s massive cheating. And when the tapes came out, the Poker Brat issued a heartfelt statement. In the statement, he expressed outrage at UB management and how he was kept in the dark about everything. And while his comments may have satisfied some people, others don’t…
  • Jamie Gold selling WSOP Bracelet

    18 May 2013 | 11:04 am
Just two months after 2007 WSOP Main Event champ Jerry Yang had his gold bracelet seized by the IRS, 2006 Main Event winner Jamie Gold is selling his WSOP bracelet. Gold’s bracelet and Corum poker watch will be auctioned off online through Heritage Auctions – the self-titled “World’s Largest Collectibles Auctioneer.” People can start bidding on the bracelet come July 13th, which, coincidentally, will be when the 2013 WSOP Main Event is taking place. Heritage describes the bracelet in the listing as follows: The bracelet features 259 stones including over seven…
  • Phil Hellmuth says he was Totally Misled by UB Poker Management

    Jeremy
    13 May 2013 | 7:20 pm
At the end of the week, we discussed how Phil Hellmuth was brought up in UB Poker audio tapes that confirmed “God Mode” cheating. Russ Hamilton, who admitted to cheating players out of millions of dollars in the tapes, also discussed Hellmuth. Hamilton said that Hellmuth needed to be kept in the dark about the scandal because he could spill the situation to everybody. After hearing the audio tapes for the first time, the Poker Brat decided to make a statement on the matter. He discusses his disdain for UB Poker and how he felt completely misled. A portion of Hellmuth’s…
  • Hellmuth, Duke mentioned in UB Superuser Scandal Tapes

    Jeremy
    12 May 2013 | 12:07 am
Yesterday, we reported how Ultimate Poker, which is America’s first regulated poker site, dropped subcontractor Iovation. The reason why is because Iovation provided software for Ultimate Bet and their CEO, Greg Pierson, helped cover up a UB superuser scandal. All of this has become relevant again – despite happening six years ago – because of tapes leaked by UB computer whiz Travis Makar. The tapes contain damning evidence that Russ Hamilton, Pierson and others covered up the superuser cheating, rather than work to make things right with players. And a couple of the more…
  • Ultimate Poker drops Scandal-Ridden Iovation

    Jeremy
    11 May 2013 | 9:12 pm
Last month, Ultimate Poker became the first site in US history to deal real money poker hands. And everything seemed to be going quite well after the successful launch…expect for the fact that they used Iovation as a subcontractor. As many people in the poker world know, Iovation eventually became the software provider for Ultimate Bet. When the UB superuser scandal occurred in 2007, Iovation was supposed to help prevent and stop this kind of cheating. Instead, the company’s CEO, Greg Pierson, helped Russ Hamilton sweep the incident under the rug and do damage control when the…

Had a good weekend of poker out at Canterbury Park.  The Mid-States Poker Tour was in town, and though I'm not bankrolled for the $1,100 Main Event, I played a $250 satellite and won a ticket. The beats just piled on top of each other until I was near to expecting to see the 83s my opponent had called four bets preflop with hit two pair at the river. But I continued to play well and never hit my stop-loss, so I just kept playing till I had to get home and take the kids to school....Read Full Post

  • What’s the Deal With Online Gambling Sites Claiming to Be Legal in the US?

    admin
    21 Feb 2013 | 12:34 pm
If you’re a part of the online gambling community, you’ve no doubt noticed a growing number of ways to bet online that promote themselves as “100% U.S. legal!” or with some similar declaration. That’s a confusing message to those who have followed the American online gambling market over the last few years and watched as first the UIGEA and then Black Friday dramatically shrunk the number of options bettors from the United States could find online. At the same time, the law (and the enforcement of it and related laws) made the position of the U.S. government…
  • Does Rakeback Have a Future in Online Poker?

    admin
    16 Feb 2013 | 12:31 pm
Rakeback was once a pretty much ubiquitous part of online poker. Nearly every major online poker room offered some sort of rakeback to players, whether directly or through third-party affiliates. In fact, it wasn’t uncommon for skins on the same network to battle each other for players by constantly bumping their rakeback rate, sometimes by as little as a fraction of a percent. The days when players could expect such generous rewards are largely in the rear-view mirror, we’re afraid. While online poker sites still do deliver a fair amount of rake back to players via promotions and…

  • Why Online Poker Rooms Use Codes

    admin
    13 May 2013 | 11:49 pm
Online poker sites have used many different strategies to market to new players. Most online businesses run into trouble when they advertise offline but want to track the success of things like TV ads. We have all seen the “Where did you hear about us?” field on a sign up form. I usually do not even bother answering it but if I am forced to I just make something up. This all probably sounds pretty boring but online poker rooms also use codes for the same reason. A code by itself would not be effective but savvy poker sites attach special bonuses to their codes. What started off as…
  • New Mixed Games Coming To Full Tilt Poker?

    admin
    10 May 2013 | 1:43 am
Full Tilt Poker has added several new card games recently and it immediately occurred to me that they will most likely incorporate these card games into new mixed poker games. Right now the HA poker, 7-Game, 8-Game and 10-Game mix seem to be the most popular mixed games and 10-Game is the most complex of the bunch. Fulltilt Poker and Pokerstars have taken almost every card game they offered and put them all together to create mixed variants like 9-Game and 10-Game. They have not been able to create an 11-Game mix or a 12-Game mix because they didn’t have any other card games to throw…

This slot game has another jackpot that currently stands at €138,000. The thing I love about the Mega Fortune slot is that it doesn’t require a million credits to qualify for the jackpot. We’ve talked quite a bit about the EPT Grand Final over the past few days, including the big event that featured one of the most talked about and followed final tables that I’ve ever seen. This was the Grand Final that saw Steve O’Dwyer take down the win, but he had to beat out some serious competition to be able to do so. Another event that we definitely have to talk about though is the 2013 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final High-Roller event, which had a €25,000 buy-in. Players were also allowed to rebuy into the event one time if they wanted to.

Ivey was a big name…
