Hello Guys and Girls, Today I’m just going to give a poker update and mention a few things that have been making the headlines in the last few weeks. EPT Grand Final I am home now a few weeks after the EPT grand final in Monte Carlo. I had a pretty good trip overall, managed to get 3rd in the 5k PLO for 33k and also cashed 26th in a 2k side event for 6k. I booked a small win in the cash games and am overall pretty happy with how I played. I would say Monte Carlo is now probably one of if not the best EPT stop of the year. It does attract the very best players in the world, but it also…

Welcome to No Limit 2-7 Single Draw! What to Expect Some tense moments. At times No Limit 2-7 Single Draw can be as pure as poker gets. You can draw cards just once. And you can bet all your chips on it. At The Outset You are dealt five cards, unknown to your opponents. The forced bets are identical to No Limit Hold’em; there is a button, a small blind, and a big blind. Often in this game there will be an ante, in both tournaments and in cash games. Similarly betting proceeds as you would expect in No Limit Hold’em. But there are just two betting rounds total (instead of four). The first,…

Check it out in the video of the week: Last week we featured a filthy hero call from Erik Seidel. Check it out here if you haven’t already. Who dug deeper, Seidel or Antonious? The reality is, the more confident you are with your game, the more hands you should be playing from this position. Words of caution: certain types of players are going to be less likely to "believe you" when you open (or re-raise) from the button, so you'll want to take that into account. Jeremy Olson
    23 May 2015 | 4:51 am
It’s been all quiet on the poker news front over the past couple weeks, probably because most players are getting ready for the 2015 WSOP, which is now less than a week away. We won’t have to wait long for a headliner, because the festivities kick off with the $565 buy-in “Colossus,” a reentry tournament with a $5 million guaranteed prize pool. Many expect the Colossus to easily break the record for the largest poker tournament ever, which is held by the 2012 WSOP Main Event (8,733 entrants). Given that the Colossus offers rebuys, it’s almost a guarantee that it…
  • Doug Polk, Bjorn Li lead Humans over Claudico

    Jeremy Olson
    12 May 2015 | 1:53 am
The poker world recently got an opportunity to see the ultimate humans vs. poker bot competition. The four-player team of Doug Polk, Jason Les, Bjorn Li and Dong Kim battled “Claudico,” an award-winning poker program created by Carnegie Mellon University. There was some definite motivation to win here because Microsoft fronted $100k for the winner’s prize. And it looks like the humans will be splitting this prize because they destroyed Claudico to the tune of $732k. Li was the biggest catalyst in the victory since he made $529k against the machine. “We know…
  • Negreanu to challenge PokerStars over PLO Rake

    3 May 2015 | 12:59 am
One has to give Daniel Negreanu credit for interacting with players as much as possible through social media – something many less-famous poker pros find beneath them. But if there’s been one criticism of Negreanu by those on poker forums (namely TwoPlusTwo), it’s that he mainly wants what’s best for himself and PokerStars. There’s certainly no concrete proof of this criticism, and Kid Poker recently proved that he does care about players after agreeing to speak with PokerStars about PLO rake. The issue first surfaced during a March podcast with Joey…

Just recently, Lock Poker closed their cyber doors, taking an estimated $15 million in player funds with it. And one rumor that I covered involved the site’s owner, Jennifer Larson, trying to sell 49% of Lock Poker for $5 million. A heavy price tag for a failing online poker site, especially one with such a bad reputation. So it’s little surprise that there were no takers on this deal. But what’s really disgusting is that Larson did have at least one very interested prospect that she refused to sell to. Via a report from PokerFuse, it appears that former SealsWithClubs owner…

But a set of elite poker pros are ready to prove that it’s not yet time for the bots to rule the game. Doug ‘WCGRider’ Polk, Dong ‘Donger’ Kim, Jason Les and Bjorn Li are all engaged in a 20k hand challenge with “Claudico,” an improved version of the award-winning poker bot “Tartanian7.” Developed by scientists at Carnegie Mellon University, the Claudico bot is supposed to be the best at NL…

    23 May 2015 | 9:43 pm
I'm somewhat of a newbie. I've read somewhere that after playing a session, reviewing each hand by doing EV calculations is one way to do hand analysis. I've been learning slowly by watching videos, reading books, and just playing poker over the past year but I really want to engage myself and truly take my game to the next level. Right now I am working on being able to put my opponents on a range. That way I can actually do EV calculations to begin with right? cause you need that info to plug into the equity calculator to than figure out the "sklansky dollars". Am I on the right…

So recently as I am free for a few months, I've decided to really knuckle down on poker. Playing 6 tables of 6-max with PT4 as I have a tiny screen and it feels comfortable (except when trying to make notes). I am rolled for $0.10/$0.25 stakes NLH and every single session, for the first time in my poker life, I felt completely helpless: -There were TAG players EVERYWHERE -There was next to ZERO value on ANY hands -At times, I felt completely outplayed and as though I was the weak link on the table. I ended down $95 after 5,835 hands. I looked back at my hand histories after each session and…
