  • Daniel Negreanu rants for Ivey in Borgata Edge Sorting Case

    Jeremy Olson
    20 Apr 2014 | 5:23 am
If Phil Ivey is looking for some support in his defense against the Borgata’s $9.6 million “edge sorting” lawsuit, he’s definitely got it in fellow poker pro Daniel Negreanu. “KidPoker” unleashed a twitter rant that blasts the Borgata for trying to recoup money from an advantage baccarat player. Basically, he says that the Borgata got hustled and wants their money back in the aftermath. Here’s a look at his barrage of tweets: Been reading up on poker news lately and the people running the Borgata high limit pit have to be incredibly stupid overall.

    Jeremy Olson
    18 Apr 2014 | 8:56 am
Johnny Lodden has been a fixture in the poker world over the past decade-plus and is one of Norway’s best players ever. That said, he’s definitely got some perspective on how much poker has changed over the past 10 years. Lodden recently sat down with PokerListings and discussed a number of interesting subjects, including when exactly poker got tougher. Asked about when he thought the games were becoming less profitable, Lodden said the following: Not sure, maybe in 2008. That’s when the games started becoming very professional. Before that I was one of the few to play the…

    17 Apr 2014 | 2:51 pm
One of the more interesting prop wager rumors going around a few months ago was that Antonio Esfandiari had a “no sex” prop bet going with hedge fund manager Bill Perkins. The rumor claimed that Esfandiari was being offered $1 million to go without sex, and “The Magician” confirmed this to PokerStrategy, only he says it was for $500k. The 2012 WSOP Big One for One Drop winner admits that he only made it nine days before buying out of the bet for an undisclosed amount. Esfandiari states that it’s not that he couldn’t do it, but rather that he didn’t…

    Jeremy Olson
    14 Apr 2014 | 5:40 pm
Since winning the 2005 WSOP Main Event along with $7.5 million, Joe Hachem has been a fairly polarizing player. He can be entertaining at times, thanks to the emotion he puts into the game. However, he’s also embarrassed himself with various tirades and even crying on his wife’s shoulder. So it’s little surprise that Hachem ignited a firestorm when he called out younger Main Event champs – as well as Jerry Yang and Jamie Gold – for not being better ambassadors. There were plenty of angry tweets and posts on TwoPlusTwo about the matter. Interestingly enough,…
  • “Michael Jordan of Poker,” Phil Ivey, being sued for $9.6m

    Jeremy Olson
    13 Apr 2014 | 3:34 pm
When it comes to poker, Phil Ivey just can’t seem to stop making headlines. Unfortunately, this time Ivey’s in the news because he is being sued by the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa for $9.6 million. As reported by ABC, the “Michael Jordan of Poker” is accused of cheating in baccarat games. Ivey used a little-known practice called edge sorting to gain an advantage over the Borgata and win $9.6 million. Edge sorting involves finding a faulty baccarat deck, then spotting tiny manufacturing flaws on the card backs. However, Ivey used some other questionable practices en…

  • New Article Series Begins

    8 Apr 2014 | 4:30 am
It is near impossible to give students a rote yes or no answer to every possible poker situation that arises. In fact, most questions about specific hands demand the answer, "It depends." With that in mind, I am beginning a new series of articles detailing hands I have played with the intention of showing my thought process during the hand, rather than trying to tell you how to play the exact same situation. You're unlikely to be in the exact same situation. But you can use the same processes to break down a hand you're in and come to the correct decision in your specific situation....Read…

    30 Mar 2014 | 2:19 pm
Though I only cashed in one of the four tournies I played in Reno last week, I went deep in all of them. But that's normal for me. And it should be normal for you, as well. Don't be afraid of the disappointment of playing for a long time and not getting anything for it. You often won't. But going deep is an indication that you are playing well. Keep playing well and the cashes will come. And remember to watch the effective stacks when the blinds are high.

I guess variance is a bit of an area we cant really explain or identify, with it being random and down to luck? Any of you have any luck with quads over your playing time :)? Hi, I seem to get in trouble when playing KQo/s or maybe even QJs/JTs on the button to a limp. Or to a more agro player opening in EP wide. I will usually 3bet. Then the flop comes out all low cards rainbow. I am concerned that my tag'ish ways gives the villain a good read on my cards. I will get a check/call if I cbet. Sometimes I will delay the cbet to the turn to see if I improve at all. At that point, if I don't, I am ready to give up on the hand. I know that each hand is part of a larger set of play. And I am trying to not be as results oriented as I was when I first started. I also know…

Most deposit bonuses are not instant (also known as “No-Deposit Bonuses”) and players have to unlock the funds either in increments (or favorite) or all at once. To unlock the funds, players must earn poker points by playing either real money cash games or real money tournaments. There are several key strategies to consider to not only unlock your bonus quickly but to have them consistently add to your…

Based on my own personal experience, there has been no decline in the number of adds for online casinos the last couple of years; in fact, almost the opposite appears to be the case. If online casinos are advertising for their games, I can only assume that there must be a market for them – but who are these people playing on online casinos, and why do they like using them? This time though, it’s not for winning a big time tournament or taking home a huge chunk of cash at the cash game tables. Instead, Ivey is being sued by the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. The lawsuit was filed this past week, as the casino is seeking reimbursement of a total of $9.626 million in winnings that he brought in while playing at a baccarat table. The wins came over four different sessions and were back in 2012. Borgata filed a complaint that is close to 60 pages long, and they…
