Ratings for the Monday night marathon were up 10-13% year-over-year, pulling .33 US HHs (459,000 viewers) that peaked with a .5. In 2013 three states – Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey – launched online gaming sites. Since then, iGaming expansion in the United States has ground to a halt. Not a single state has passed a bill legalizing online casino games or online poker games, let alone launched an online poker site in that time. On top of that you have Sheldon Adelson “spending whatever it takes” to ban online gambling. Adelson allies in Congress are working hard at the federal level to get the Restoration of America’s Wire Act bill passed. And they’re working a bit more in the shadows at…

On Thursday, Pretlow authored an op-ed in Roll Call in which he derided federal attempts to ban online gambling, specifically citing the Restoration of America’s Wire Act (RAWA) a bill widely believed to have been crafted by billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson that was introduced in…

As Pennsylvania continues to inch closer to online gaming expansion, it’s becoming increasingly hard to avoid comparing Pennsylvania’s potential market to the existing market of its eastern neighbor New Jersey. The final day of action on Tuesday started with 27 players and included Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu. Unfortunately Negreanu fell just shy of the final table in 11th place. As has been widely reported over the last few days, the latest chapter in the Phil Ivey edge-sorting saga involves a counter-suit by Ivey against the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. The original case dates back to April 2014, when the Borgata sued Ivey to reclaim $9.6 million after he beat the house in mini-baccarat using a technique known as edge-sorting, and with the assistance of Cheung Yin Sun, the so-called “Queen of Sorts” for her mastery of the technique. Ivey has already lost a similar lawsuit against Crockfords Casino in London, although that decision is under appeal. In…

  • GVC ditches Amaya, makes $1.55b Bid to buy Bwin.Party

    Jeremy Olson
    27 Jul 2015 | 11:43 am
Not long ago, it was thought that 888 Holdings had pretty much wrapped up their bid to buy bwin.party for £898.3 million ($1.4 billion). However, it’s now looking like this is an open competition to buy bwin.party since GVC has jumped back into the mix with a £1 billion offer ($1.55b). In the original bidding war, 888 was able to win over bwin.party’s board – despite GVC offering a higher £898.3 million bid. The reason why is because the board said that 888′s offer came with more certainty. However, by putting $15 million more on the table than 888, it’s…

    Jeremy Olson
    11 Jul 2015 | 1:19 am
The 2015 WSOP definitely won’t go down among Phil Ivey’s greatest poker achievements. That’s because the 10-time WSOP champion failed to cash even once at the Rio this summer. A huge reason why is because he didn’t play in a tournament until the Event #61 $111,111 High Roller for ONE DROP. Ivey made a strong run in this 135-player tourney, but busted out five spots short of the money. With just seven tournaments left, this didn’t give the 39-year-old much of an opportunity to win a bracelet or even cash. Ivey also participated in the 2015 WSOP Main Event, but…

Jamie Gold attained instant poker superstardom after winning the 2006 WSOP Main Event along with $12 million. To this day, his payout remains the largest for a Main Event champion. Nevertheless, Gold’s poker skills have become somewhat of a joke over the last decade. That said, he’s working on ending this joke with his recent fifth-place finish in the 2015 WSOP Event #59 $1,500 NLHE tourney. Facing a massive field of 2,155 players, Gold battled on to the final table and looked like a threat to win until he busted out in fifth. While he may not have claimed victory, the former…

And this year was certainly no different, with 4,193 players turning out for the 2015 WSOP $1,000 Seniors Championship. This year, the standout player was definitely Travis Baker, who blazed through the final table in little time. In all, the final table took just five hours, the shortest of the 2015 WSOP so far. And once play got down to just five grinders, it only took Baker 35 minutes to finish off his victory. Just to emphasize how quickly the 50-year-old…

My first goal was to just be patient and wait for the cards to come, but I sat through 3 tourneys and either sat until I got blinded out, or (worse I know) try to make plays with the crappy cards I got toward the end with no stack to be able to intimidate anyone out of the pot. Hastings not only just won his second career WSOP bracelet, but he cashed in on some big prop bets too. The professional poker player just won the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship (Event #27) on the weekend. He outlasted a field of 91 players to win the bracelet, but more importantly, he won roughly $500,000 in prop bets for winning the bracelet.
