Esti Ginzburg Has The Right Idea
9 Feb 2010 | 9:19 amThis is the first time we’ve ever heard of Esti Ginzburg, but she didn’t take long to skyrocket up the charts as one of our favorite international models. This Israeli beauty who was warned in advance of the Madsen Borgata final table gets extra points from us for taking a shot at spreading world peace by showing women in burkas how to be sexy in a bikini. In related news, some imbecile fanatic probably just issued a fatwa against Esti…after masturbating to the video first, of course.Related PostsNo related posts found -
Brooklyn Decks SI Swimsuit Issue Pics Bring You Today’s Poker News

The dream of every 14 year-old whose parent’s have still blocked adult Internet site access on the family computer.Brooklyn Decker is this year’s cover model (believe we featured her in last year’s Swimsuit pic post, but too lazy to search the archives and confirm…BJ?). When we get some more time, we’ll scan the pics online and do some more posts. On with the latest news going on in the poker world.:: Bernard Lee has officially completed his mission to get more out of a… -
The Jeff Madsen 2/5/10 Borgata Winter Poker Open Conspiracy
6 Feb 2010 | 10:01 am2-5-10: Never Forget(Editor’s Note: this post was submitted by the newly formed 2/5/10 Truthers)According to the Borgata Winter Poker Open website (view here), Jeff Madsen won their Main Event yesterday, February 5th, 2010.Or did he?Consider the evidence::: There is no actual video tape footage of Madsen soaring to victory…only this after-the-fact interview that plays at just a frame a per second and could’ve been easily staged.:: Why were there no Jews at the final table? Did the Borgata give them advance warning of a Madsen conspiracy?:: If he really did win the event,… -
Nozomi Sasaki Is The Friday Night Parting Shot Girl
6 Feb 2010 | 1:34 amNozomi Sasaki is a gravure idol which is like the Japanese version of a Page 3 girl, or put another way, a Keeley Hazell that can't drive. This week’s Friday Night Parting Shot Girl is 21-year-old Nozomi Sasaki, who like Mikie Hara and Kana Tsugihara is one of those sexy cute Japanese gravure idols known for posing for countless photo shoots in next-to-nothing, otherwise known as the greatest thing ever. Coincidentally, Nozomi also looks pretty much identical to Mike Hara and Kana Tsugihara. Not that we’re saying all Asian girls look alike, but let’s just say if we were… -
Jeff Madsen Among Chip Leaders at Borgata Winter Poker Open Final Table
5 Feb 2010 | 8:00 amSloooooooow poker news week in general. But a decent final table at the Borgata Winter Poker Open deserves a mention.Among the final table-ists is 9/11 conspiracist/rapper Jeff Madsen, who is fourth in chips stacked at 3,185,000. In related news, we caught a great special on the National Geographic channel debunking 9/11 conspiracy theories the other day. Above is one clip from said special. In related related news, here’s a video of a white guy who can rap.Leading the final table is the awesomely named (and Pokerati fave) Sirous Jamshidi with 4,750,000. Also still alive is Matt Matros…

“Full Rush” tables at Full Tilt Poker
3 Feb 2010 | 5:00 amPlay Online Poker It would be hard to imagine that anyone who plays online that has not heard about “Full Rush” poker being played at FullTiltPoker.Com, an affiliate site of mine. The concept is very simple. You can “quick fold” any hand when you are not the big blind and be moved to another table and get dealt a fresh hand. If you are the big blind, you can “quick fold” as soon as you are raised. You can also advance click a fold option selection, which is helpful if you are playing multiple tables. The basic idea of the quick fold is to allow you to see… -
The Professor, the Banker and the Suicide King – a review
21 Jan 2010 | 4:25 amCover via Amazon I have just finished an interesting book written by Michael Craig entitled The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time. This story details perhaps one of the biggest cash games ever played, in excess of $20 million dollars and these events occured between 2001 and 2004 between some of the best professional poker players in the industry and an amateur, a banker by the name of Andrew “Andy” Beal. Before reading the book, I had not heard a word about this event and yet it involved almost all of the poker superstars that… -
Small Ball Poker – a tourney strategy!
20 Jan 2010 | 11:08 amImage via Wikipedia I have just finished reading Power Hold’em Strategy written by Daniel Negreanu. He has five other contributors including himself in the book. There is something there for both the amateur and the semi-pro as well as secrets that even the poker pros might be able to use to increase their wins. This book is intended for those players that participate in playing tournaments, both online and in a casino. The bulk of the book is an explanation and tutorial on how to play “Small Ball Poker”, written by Daniel, who excels in that type of play, On the surface,… -

Please donate to Haiti relief – because we can!
14 Jan 2010 | 4:36 amImage by Vidiot via Flickr By now, I think that most poker players realize the seriousness of the disaster facing the people of Haiti. As a group and as individuals, we can help. The easiest and best way to help is by giving a donation to any of the organizations that are set up to provide assistance in times of crisis. Just using your cell phone and texting, you can contribute cash – your service provider will bill you. The following is just a few of the avaialbe texting options: Text the word “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross. Text the word…

China to Online Gamblers: We’re coming to get you!
9 Feb 2010 | 10:53 amI’m kinda glad I didn’t respond to that spammish email trying to sell me pokerati.cn … the Commie reds are about to embark on a six-month, eight-agency crackdown on online gambling. Chinese officials did not respond to inquiries on whether or not running the campaign between now and August had anything to do with timing of the World Series of Poker. Not sure how deep any in our industry have dug into the possibilities in China yet, but hey, that “Bodies” exhibit could probably use some new prisoners to pose playing poker. More on the China crackdown, where you… -
Bernard Lee to Become Official Face of Foxwoods Casino Ambassadorial deal with non-online, brick-and-mortar site
9 Feb 2010 | 6:00 amAs more and more casinos proliferate across the United States, some of the old stalwarts are looking for ways to keep themselves at the top of their region when it comes to poker prestige and casino profits … and the famed Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut has hired semi-accomplished poker pro and ESPN analyst Bernard Lee as their new representative. Beyond being a landmark deal for himself personally, Lee’s partnership with Foxwoods opens up what may or may not become a trend in US brick-and-mortar poker rooms — hiring poker players with brand-worthy recognition to… -

Shenanigans at Texas Charity Tourney?
8 Feb 2010 | 11:29 amWe know little because we’re thousands of miles away, but why am I not shocked that what coulda been the greatest thing ever — poker that helps a bunch of kids on Super Bowl Sunday — has left at least a few people with a sour taste in their mouths? I sent an email trying to find out how many people played, how much money was raised, and what celebs if any may have gone deep in the biggest freeroll in Texas history … but instead learned from Dallas CAN!, the charity who helped make it happen: Went ok the poker company we partnered with did some things that were not… -

Reload
9 Feb 2010 | 8:23 amI will be back in tournament action today and cash games later this week … I think. Here is a story of how I outplayed a young gun in a cash game several weeks ago: I am in seat 9. Seats 8 and 10 were open. This young gun sits down in seat 10, presumably so he can raise me. I am in the big blind with K-K. He raises under the gun with a hand like A-Q or A-J. The flop comes K-Q-7 rainbow. I check call my set all the way to the river. His chips are gone, and I take it down. The young gun reloads and moves to seat 8. “You moved to check raise me now?” I ask him. He grins. He… -
Deal Me In?
5 Feb 2010 | 6:58 amLast week, I wrote a post saying I was done with poker. Since then, I have had fellow players, friends, and dealers call and email me asking what the hell is going on. Perhaps my post jumped the gun a bit. I don’t know. I have the gift of accurately reading players’ hands blind and making the right decision. Blessings are curses sometimes. I took a break from cash after I flopped Queens full of 9s (I had Q-Q) and got called pre-flop and at every street by someone with K-9 off. Well, the dog hand caught the case 9 on the river for quads. So, I went to tournaments for a week. I… -
Seat Open
28 Jan 2010 | 8:21 amI have played my last hand of poker. It is time to find a new source of income. One without extreme disappointment and longshot odds. What is driving this? In addition to me being generally tired of playing with bad players, drunks, and scumbags? I have taken some brutal bad beats lately. Especially yesterday. I lose to the worst players and they give the money away almost as fast as they win it. And they win by sheer dumb luck. Tournaments. Cash games. It is all the same. The only thing these players know is they have a better chance of winning on a 989-to-1 runner-runner longshot than they… -
Mary Lou
27 Jan 2010 | 7:11 amRemember the Bob Seger song Mary Lou? It reminds me of how people play pocket Queens wrong. It goes something like this: I’m gonna tell you a story ’bout Mary Lou You know the kind of woman make a fool of you She make a young man itch She man an old man faint The way she took my money was a crying shame Mary Lou she took my watch and chain Mary Lou she took my diamond ring Mary Lou she took the keys to my Cadillac car Jumped in my kitty and drove off far I watched one player go broke with Queens last night. Twice. Another player raises to $12 in early position and gets seven… -
Get Away
26 Jan 2010 | 7:07 amI tried an experiment yesterday to confirm what I already know. What the hell, I was bored. Brunson’s Super System says you cannot put a play on a weak player. You must showdown the best hand. This, I already know from playing with weak players. Sometimes, I need validation. I am in a hand with a guy that raises to $20 pre-flop. I call. A player behind makes it $40 to go. The original raiser and I both call. The flop is As-Ks-9h. The original raiser checks. I bet hoping to represent an Ace or a King. Both players call. The turn is a Queen. The Queen of spades. The original raiser gets…

Lesson 163: Profiting From Extra Calls
7 Feb 2010 | 9:00 amLet's examine how to earn extra calls to enlarge your bankroll. As a master at the use of psychology on his opponents, Mike succeeds in achieving extra calls time and again. You can become accomplished too with a little knowledge and practice. Doubt. When attempting to elicit a call from an opponent you should be comfortable, smooth, and confident. It shouldn't seem like a con game. Make it seem like you don't want the call. This plants a seed of doubt into your opponent's mind. He thinks that perhaps you don't have the cards necessary to steal the pot from him? Maybe his cards are better? -
Trial in Gibraltar or Jail in Ohio
7 Feb 2010 | 9:00 am'If we read Ohio law as controlling the contract in question, the parties probably are guilty of a crime under Ohio law, the contract is void, and both parties could be extradited and prosecuted together in an Ohio criminal court.' -Gilbert Stroud Merritt, Jr., Concurring, in Wong v. PartyGaming A year ago, I wrote, 'Party Poker won a nice victory in federal court in Ohio, because its Terms and Conditions say that all disputes will be heard in the courts of Gibraltar.' The losers at the trial level appealed. The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has now issued its ruling, upholding Party… -

Raise n Chase: Part 5
3 Feb 2010 | 9:00 amWe played $4-$8 hold 'em with Woody recently and learned a few new tricks. Woody plays most every day, arriving at lunchtime and staying as long as he can find a good game. He doesn't win every day-no one does-he just usually wins. We doubt that he even has losing weeks. Anyway, during our session Woody raised in the blind with Aa-6h, Ks-Js, and 9c-9d. He won nice pots with each hand, making aces-up, a flush, and a set of nines when the dealer turned a nine. We observed that Woody raised in the blind when he held a modest hand and there were many limpers, i.e., a 'family' pot, because in…

Multiple domains, same website
9 Feb 2010 | 9:09 amSo let's say I own a bunch of domains for the same small niche. I don't really think it's worth me making 5 sites for the same micro-niche (or is it?). Should I just be 301'ing all the domains towards the one website? For example (NOT the real domains in question): obamapoker.com obama-poker.com obamapokeronline.com obamaonlinepoker.com obamapoker.net etc, etc Does the main website gain anything SEO-wise by having the 5-10 other domains pointed/301'd at it? Most of the domains are at least a few years old, but only some have a little content (ie 1 page). -
International Forums on PAL?
9 Feb 2010 | 8:25 amThis morning I was talking with an old friend in the industry and he was asking why we don't have an international section in the forums here at PAL. I suppose my first response was that I had a bunch up on PAP when I ran the community there, and they never really got super active. The other challenge is moderating the forums. At the same time though I realize this was 3 years ago. Our industry has grown quite a bit in respect to becoming more globalized. I'd love to hear some feedback from affiliates and even affiliate managers on this. Would it be beneficial to the community/industry, or… -

Has the Promised One returned?
2 Feb 2010 | 10:52 pmIt looks like Isildur1 is making a comeback, as the blogs have been all a-twitter about some Isildur1 sightings in low stakes games at Full Tilt Poker. There are also rumors that the mystery man is playing at Betfair Poker as Omlphalotus, which is a much harder name to discuss around the Poker.com offices than Isildur1 (seriously, how is that pronounced?). Omlphalotus apparently plays just like Isildur1, including the disastrous habit of foolishly long sessions, and those in the know are reasonably sure it's our favorite high stakes maniac.Isildur1's return to Full Tilt has been anything but… -

Ivey: All-Time Money Earner
26 Jan 2010 | 8:51 pmThe Aussie Millions may have dealt Phil Ivey a cruel blow on Monday, but his runner-up finish in the $100k Challenge Monday was enough to push the Full Tilt Poker Pro over the line as the all-time leading money winner.Touted as the "richest tournament in the Southern Hemisphere", the Aussie Millions event saw Ivey lose heads-up against relative unknown Dan Shak. Ivey's hand of A/10 was trumped on the flop when Shak picked up two pair of sevens and fours, proving to be the decider. While Shak took away double Phil Ivey's prize money, the legendary Full Tilt Pro still managed to pick up… -

One of the best is that people will be allowed to use Twitter and make emails, as long as they do so in a hand they are not a part of, and as long as they aren't communicating with other players at the table. If the tournament staff believe you are communicating with another player, then you and the person you were giving helpful hints to will be disqualified. Also, people may only make calls on a phone as long as they are at least one table length away from the table they are playing at. All seem fair, and… -

4 Feb 2010 | 7:36 pmFor the first time in weeks, the big game on Full Tilt Poker was not the popular 7-Game. Instead, the high stakes action was in Pot Limit Omaha. Three high stakes pros took to the online felt at $300/$600 stakes. Patrik Antonius and Cole South were joined by Ilari Sahamies aka Ziigmund. Sahamies was the [...] -

End of trip wrapup
2 Feb 2010 | 1:30 amA lot has happened since my last entry. Let's start with the Main Event. Day 2 started well for me, I had my 70k up to 250k pretty quickly after an early set-up with KK vs AKs. I was playing with Gus Hansen, John Juanda and James Akenhead. As a result, it wasn't very surprising when they made us the first tv table. It was fun to play for the cameras again, though it was a pretty short experience (2 hours). When we got moved back down away from the cameras, I started bleeding chips pretty badly and lost about 100k in the next level.Gus Hansen was annoying the crap out of me, as was this bwin… -
Happy Australia Day!
25 Jan 2010 | 4:48 pmGood day mate! I really like the way Australians are. The way they talk, their positive (yet not fake) attitude, just the general atmosphere in Melbourne is something that keeps me coming back year after year.our chef at Koko, a very nice Japanese restaurant at the CrownI went 0 for 2 in the nightly $1k satellites to the Main Event, which isn't a surprise considering the ridiculous structure. The funniest thing about them though are the things that the other players say at the table. They try to use words they've read in a book or magazine like fold equity or bluff catcher but put them so out… -
PCA recap
15 Jan 2010 | 10:03 pmMy first PCA trip did not quite live up to my expectations, pretty much only as a result of the poor weather. Of the 10 days I was there we only had one sunny day, one decent day and eight meh days. When so much of the Atlantis experience is based on outdoor/pool activities, it really takes a lot of options away as far as what you can do other than grind it out in the casino. I try plan these trips as more of a vacation with poker on the side rather than vice versa whenever possible. If I had to pick a highlight of the trip it would certainly be the food. Nobu & Mesa Grill were both… -
Bahamas
6 Jan 2010 | 2:03 pmMy trip to the Bahamas did not go very smooth at all. First, my plane in Kansas City was delayed two hours due to a failure with some generator (?) and consequently I missed my connecting flight in Dallas. Because there were no more flights from Dallas to Nassau, I was rerouted through Miami. However, all the flights from Miami were booked out until the next morning, so I had to spend the night in Miami. This was quite tilting as you can imagine! The next morning I flew to Nassau and it turns out that I grabbed the wrong suitcase from the conveyor belt! Some guy had the exact same suitcase as… -
A Whole New Year
1 Jan 2010 | 8:53 am2010 has arrived! I can't believe that the millennium is now 10 years in the past! It's something I'll never forget because my mom forbade me to go to the Brandenburg Gate with all my friends and I still tease her about it to this day. She thought it was too dangerous, but for 14-year old me I could think of nothing more fun! My new years this year was actually quite weak. I stayed home and chilled indoors, alone, and even played some poker! It's ironic because I preach about getting out and being social and then I turn around and do something like that, oh well. It was very relaxing, I had…

Prospects for Overturning UIGEA Looking Grim
2 Feb 2010 | 8:59 amGoing into this year, I was optimistic that Rep. Barney Frank’s (pictured right) attempt to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) had a chance of being enacted. But now I’m not so sure. In fact, I’d bet against it. When Scott Brown defeated state Atty. Gen. Martha Coakley in a special election to fill the late Ted Kennedy's US Senate seat, it sent the Democrats into full retreat—in panic mode—ready to do anything to save their seats and leaving them unwilling to support online poker. While November’s elections are a ways away, it’s pretty clear that the… -
TJ Cloutier Pawns WSOP Bracelet
2 Feb 2010 | 7:27 amThis is a sad story and a cautionary tale for those who think playing poker for a living is a bed of roses. Well, it’s not. And it’s especially tough when a poker player has other leaks like craps and sports betting, and when times get tough, making ends meet is not always easy.TJ Cloutier earned millions at the poker table, and is generally regarded as the “best player never to win the World Series of Poker’s main event.” Still, TJ had to sell his 2005 $5,000 no-limit hold’em bracelet to a Plano, TX pawn shop—presumably to make ends meet. The bracelet was then sold by the… -
Florida May Regulate Intranet Poker
22 Jan 2010 | 4:43 pmFlorida lawmakers are considering legalizing and regulating online poker for local residents. Analysts in the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability—the state’s research branch—are considering three possibilities: allow online poker, ban online poker, or wait to see what the US government decides to do about regulating online poker in the United States. One problem with banning Internet poker is enforcing a ban against it, as evidenced by the US government’s inability to prevent players from gambling on websites hosted in other countries. Enforcing a ban means… -
Is Full Tilt's "Rush Poker" Innovation the Next Big Thing?
22 Jan 2010 | 4:05 pmFull Tilt poker introduced a new twist to online play they call Rush Poker and it vastly speeds up the number of hands one can play without having to multi table. Here’s how it works. Each rush player is one member of a larger player pool who are randomly seated at tables. Cards are dealt normally, and each player has all of his usual options available along with a "quick fold" opportunity. While hands play out as they would at any poker game, once you’re out of a hand, you—together with other players who folded about the same time you did—are seated in a new game at a new table and a… -
Will New Jersey Legalize Online Gambling?
18 Jan 2010 | 5:56 pmWill New Jersey be the first state to legalize online gambling?A bill would allow licensed New Jersey casinos, all of which are located in Atlantic City, to offer games such as poker online. This is something California grappled with last year, but made no headway with it.According to state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, the bill’s sponsor, “There are probably 500,000 online poker players in New Jersey alone. And we’re missing out on around $100 million in revenue.”According to Lesniak, “The court said such activities must be restricted within the borders of a state,” Lesniak…

Poker Tips — You Can Win: 2
30 Jan 2010 | 8:44 amNow that we have talked about drinking before playing, let’s move onto another topic that is very important when it comes to poker – that is not playing above your limit. Playing above your limit is definitely something that will cause you to lose a lot of money in the long run. Most poker tournaments have limits and if you are constantly playing ahead of your limit, you are going to lose a lot of money. You always want to make sure that you are playing with an amount of money that you are comfortable with and not a penny more. These tips and tricks were designed to assist you with… -
Poker Tips — You Can Win: 1
2 Jan 2010 | 8:06 amOne thing that most people who are first starting out in the poker arena do not remember is that concentration is key to everything in the game of poker. You always want to make sure that you are extremely sharp and that your mind is working in the right order. The reason for this is because poker is a game about strategy and that takes a lot of concentration. That is why drinking before you play poker is not the greatest idea, as that can definitely lower your concentration and your focus. Focusing on the game is certainly something that you need to do in order to win – more tips and… -
Poker Jargon — The Easy Way To Get It!
22 Dec 2009 | 7:39 pmPoker is a game that is filled not only with skill but also with mystery – the reason? Because poker players have their very own language and unless you play the game, it is very difficult to pick up all of the terms they have. Poker jargon for me was something that was very hard to pick up, as there truly are a ton of different terms out there to learn and not all of them nearly the same. There is something that you can do though and that is educating yourself. Reading a book on poker jargon is by far the best way to ensure that you not only get poker terms and conditions but that… -
Poker Phone Apps: What Are They?
28 Nov 2009 | 2:41 pmWhen it comes to playing poker, I can honestly say that there are tons of different ways that you can do it. Nowadays, they even have phone apps that you can purchase and play poker right on your phone. Mainly, this means that if you have an iPhone, you will be able to get your poker fix wherever you can connect to the internet. This is both good and bad – for poker can become an addiction and certainly video poker like this will definitely keep you addicted to the game. The good news is that it will give you more chances to win. These poker applications are actually really easy to… -
Free Bingo Games
26 Nov 2009 | 11:09 pmThe popularity of bingo is mostly due to the generosity of the game. In recent years, especially, the game of bingo has become one of the most lucrative games in the gambling world. Bingo presents players with a great opportunity to win a lot of money, as they never have to pay in a great deal of money. Bingo cards range anywhere from 1p to £5, so players are not putting much at risk in order to win some very impressive prizes. It also helps increase the odds of winning when players buy more than one card, but with jackpots topping £1000, buying a few extra cards is certainly worth the…

WBCOOP Main Event Live Blog
31 Jan 2010 | 11:41 amAfter a full week, we've reached the 2010 WBCOOP Main Event on PokerStars. I was only able to play two preliminaries due to my travel schedule. I could whine, bitch, and gnash my teeth about the WBCOOP being scheduled during the first week of the LAPC. And I probably will. But that won't stop me from live-blogging this sucker one more time.11:45am - I drove home from LA last night, arriving back in Vegas at 4am. This after spending most of the day hungover due to extracurriculars on Friday night in downtown LA. Since a pounding head is not conducive to playing stud games, I skipped the $545… -
WBCOOP Event #4 Live Blog
28 Jan 2010 | 2:45 pm2:46pm - We're a few minutes away from the start of Event #4 of the 2010 WBCOOP on PokerStars. Yesterday I live-blogged my way to what the kids call a "ghey min-cash". That's $11 in the bank. Do people still put their money in banks?Once again I'll be playing from a room on the eighth floor of the Crown Plaza Hotel at Commerce Casino. I've already irritated the housekeeping staff by shouting "La Migra en sala!" when they tried to clean the room. Score one for high school Spanish.Today's sole tournament at the L.A. Poker Classic is $545 O.E. (as if one split-pot game isn't bad enough!). So… -
WBCOOP Event #3 Live Blog
27 Jan 2010 | 3:06 pmToday's another "off day" for me at the L.A. Poker Classic. Safely ensconced in a room at the Commerce, how about a good old-fashioned live-blog for Event #3 of the 2010 WBCOOP on PokerStars?3:01pm - The wireless connection here at the Commerce is a bit sluggish. It took me four minutes to download the latest PokerStars software update, during which time I was tempted to say "Eff it" and go find some Crazians at a table downstairs. But the download just finished and I bought in one minute into late registration.3:05pm - Ok, internet issues are resolved. Since I'm playing from Commerce I… -
Dispatch from the Pacific
26 Jan 2010 | 10:46 amGreetings from Los Angeles where it's NOT currently raining. There was no joy for me in the L.A. Poker Classic Event #1 (aka the Super Donkathon). But the event was very well run, which is saying quite a bit in light of the 1,100 starters and 700 alternates that turned out. Alternates were still buying into the event during the 100-200 level despite starting with only 3,000 chips. Gambool!I'm not sure which events I'll be playing the rest of the week. CK will be hitting up Event #6 today, $335 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo. I may just stick with the cash games. For those of you who can't make it to the… -
Bring on the Crazians!
22 Jan 2010 | 11:44 amThe day has dawned gray but dry. This bodes well for my relocation today to Los Angeles, which yesterday was looking like an automotive Slip 'n' Slide down the San Bernardino Mountains. Event #1 of the L.A. Poker Classic drew 2,500 players over its first two Day 1s. Day 1c is today, with the final Day 1 flight taking place tomorrow. 6,000 entries is not out of the question.Like the rest of the lemurs, I'll be purchasing my lottery ticket tonight for the Day 1d clusterfuck extravaganza tomorrow. (I should be fair here -- everything I've heard about the first two Day 1 flights has been…

Loto-Quebec To Offer Online Gaming
5 Feb 2010 | 12:18 pmCould this be a start to government regulation of online gaming in Canada? It appears so. According to a report on CTV, “The provincial gambling monopoly, in conjunction the BC and Atlantic Lottery Corporations, will set up a site [...] -

2 Feb 2010 | 3:59 pmWell, maybe that is just a small part of the story, but it was an easy way to shorten the title from “Lacey Jones is the new face of the Canadian Poker Tour”, which is the actual story here. Yesterday the CPT announced in a press release that Jones will be the new “face” of the [...] -
T.J. Cloutier Pawns WSOP Bracelet
1 Feb 2010 | 1:41 pmThe headline sounds like the lead-in to a bad joke about T.J. Cloutier’s craps habit, but in this case it’s the literal truth. Word leaked out on various poker forums and poker rooms about an eBay listing from a pawnshop in Plano, TX that was auctioning of T.J. Cloutier’s WSOP bracelet from his win in [...] -

28 Jan 2010 | 3:26 pmA few days ago I wrote about Full Tilt Poker’s new innovating game called Rush Poker. In the past few days this got me thinking to how Pokerstars was going to respond. Would they try and buy rights to the game for Pokerstars or could they try and come up with something similar, or even [...]

Mastercard Stopping Transactions to Online Gaming
3 Feb 2010 | 8:44 amWord is spreading fast that Mastercard, and possibly even Visa, has now imposed restrictions on funding online gaming. This issue will effect most if not all online gaming sites, be it poker or gambling. This is just another small setback though , players can still use the online wallets like ewallet express, usemywallet and others. Online players will find that gaming sites are working hard to give their clients other payment options as well, so I would advise players to check and see what all the options are in the cashier at the sites you play at. This has happened to American players in… -

Free Money with Fun Step Tournaments
4 Jan 2010 | 6:22 amI thought today I would bring up a little about the Fun Step Tournaments over at Carbon Poker. The wife plays these and really enjoys them. She wins free money by using her play money to buy in with ! The Fun Step Tournaments are actually a total of three steps consisting of 10 player single table sit-n-go tourneys. If you make it to the third one and win, you get a dollar placed into your real money account. These things are a good way to learn how to avoid the donks, and an excellent way to start up a bankroll with absolutely no cost. It's just another way besides the regular freerolls that… -
The House's Review of 2009
30 Dec 2009 | 5:16 amThe end of 2009 is upon us, and it's an end to another decade. We've all seen a lot happen this past year, the biggest news in my opinion being the election of the first black man here in the States as President. It's been a rough year for President Obama as well as leaders in the rest of the world, but I really do feel optimistic that things are going to get better in 2010. If nothing else players here in the USA can be thankful for the UIGEA enforcement being delayed. That has given online poker players and gamblers alike a renewed hope that funding our games may soon be simpler to do. Just… -

A Lesson in Damage Control
7 Feb 2010 | 3:37 pmIt came to light recently that a player was awarded a pot with the worst hand, over at Cake Poker. The revelation was revealed on the 2+2 forums - where a player with a king high flush beat an ace high flush. While it was amusing that the first few posters on that thread didn’t even spot the winning hand, online poker software should spot it. We take it for granted that a poker site will award the pot to the best hand. These kinds of mistakes aren’t meant to happen, but as anyone with a computer will know - they do some strange things sometimes. Software has bugs, and this was… -
Rush Poker - Good or Bad?
24 Jan 2010 | 3:58 pmIn my previous post I was critical of one particular online room (network) for their announcement of “updates” - which put them just a few light years behind other online poker rooms, rather than many light years. But today I’ll be talking about an online poker room, Full Tilt Poker, who are the opposite, and who have just demonstrated once again how innovative and ahead of the game they are. That’s right, I’m talking about Rush Poker. Rush Poker has been billed as “the world’s fastest poker game” - and it has certainly caused a lot of buzz… -
Poker Heaven or Poker Hell?
12 Jan 2010 | 3:06 pmI play on quite a few different online poker sites. I’m lucky because I don’t live in the USA, so I have a wider choice of rooms to play at. Although I tend to spend most of my time with my American cousins playing at Full Tilt and Poker Stars, I do occasionally play at a few other sites. The problem is, apart from maybe Party Poker and the iPoker sites, the software at some of these poker rooms is so out of date. It’s amazing how bad some online poker sites are, when you think how much money they make. The prime culprit here is the Boss Media poker network. I’ve… -
Why Do Losers Say Online Poker Is Rigged?
6 Jan 2010 | 7:59 amI was having a conversation with a player from my home game the other day. We were talking about online poker, and after saying how he struggles to win online, he said “I think Poker Stars is rigged”. He’s been playing poker long enough to know it’s unlikely that Poker Stars is rigged. I was too polite to suggest it might be that he sucks at poker (actually he’s not a bad player, but online poker is a different ball game). The whole conversation reminded me of post match interviews with football team coaches. If they won, the interview is usually about how well… -
New Year (Poker) Resolutions
29 Dec 2009 | 10:08 amIt’s that time of year when millions of people decide to stop smoking, start an exercise regime, or change one of endless other things in their life. For the 90% of the population who decide to do something different for the new year, it usually lasts until the 2nd week of January. Yes that’s very negative from me, but it’s pretty accurate. Good luck to all of you who do decide to make changes and let’s hope you’re in the 10% group. Of course this is a poker blog, so let’s talk poker. The key to success at poker is improving your game, plugging leaks…

MasterCard no good for Online Poker Deposits
7 Feb 2010 | 10:01 pmIt looks like the party poopers at MasterCard are at it again. They have discovered how the online poker sites are processing online transactions and decrypted the code. That means for those US poker players that were using MC to deposit can no longer do so. My guess is that Visa is not far behind. Your best choice for depositing online if you are a US poker player is Western Union or e-Wallet. They are both easy to use and your deposit will show up in your online poker account in a matter of minutes. -

1 Feb 2010 | 9:17 pmLast year was an incredible learning experience. I got an opportunity to communicate with many of the editors of poker magazines that I have been reading for years. Some of that communication came from personal requests and others I solicited myself. In any event the experience and feedback has been extremely valuable in helping me to mold my writing into an even more viable “product” moving forward. I suppose the most fulfilling accomplishment was being hired as a regular writer with Oz Poker last year. Any time a web site comes and asks you to participate in a new venture and…

Doubt and Data
12 Jan 2010 | 5:54 amGenerally speaking, human beings lie, and data doesn't. Visual evidence, statistical evidence, it was all there. Anyone who thought Mark McGwire did not take performance enhancing drugs was just ignoring the data. Baseball is a very statistically driven game. In no other sport do you get thousands of samples per player (i.e. pitches, which lead to at bats). When you get enough samples, you can make very good statistical predictions on players. A player with a lifetime batting average of .310 will probably hit somewhere between .290 and .320 the next year. More samples, less variance, it's… -

8 Feb 2010 | 12:00 pmAntonius's first match started in the early morning hours Sunday on his personal $500/$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha table against world1969. The Sunday Scoop: THE_D_RY Deep in Brawl

U.S. online player palurdo annihilated the field and, after making a heads-up deal with golferen50, took down the tournament for a $248,791 score. Steve “Ilini213” Barshak, who won a $50k guaranteed on PokerStars for $18,700 in December, made an even bigger score yesterday when he outlasted all 1,013 entries in the PokerStars Sunday 500 to win $88,536. M u s t blog....
1 Feb 2010 | 11:02 pmHiya folks, been feeling so guilty for not updating this blog, kinda like an upaid bill, a friend you need to catch up with, or when you have to do the washing up but just can't be arsed...okay i'm talking tripe now, but you know what I mean. It's been a long old month of online poker for me, something finally clicked in the stts and my results started to improve, as did my mtt results likewise. Just a general nit up in certain situations, and a running better at flips is probably all it was, but it's been welcome enough. The only problem with the online grind is that i've hardly played live,… -

Getting sick of the beats....
19 Dec 2009 | 10:01 pmLong time no post.Guess it's that time of year again for me with poker and my career in 'gambling'.I always seem to run badly near the end of each year and go through numerous soul searching moments of questioning whether or not i can really get what i want out of this 'job'.Financially it's just a real struggle right now, constantly having to pay off bills from previous months and never seeming to have my own roll liquid. This has put me under undue pressures and it's kinda tiring. For the last few weeks i've been really hitting the late night small mtt's on ipoker. I've done okay and paid… -

I'm even running badly in the stt's but meh that's just variance.Looking 4ward to the weekend, going to be a good one i hope. I'll be studying numerous sports bets over the next 24 hours to see if I can find a nice saturday… -

From now on to appease the masses they will stay in 0.5 increments. :) Ill also round down or up my loss/win to the nearest half point for clarity.Tonight i haven't done any research into obscure fgs selections so will just have a cple of dull match bets.(Balance 98.5 points)(1)Hull draw no bet, 2.5 pts@6-4.- I like hull dnb at home tonight at 6-4. Patrik Antonius Mounts a Poker Comeback
9 Feb 2010 | 11:25 amEveryone who follows the high stakes cash games at Full Tilt Poker knows all about the 2010 woes for pros Brian Townsend and Patrik Antonius. While feelings about Townsend’s current struggles are mixed at best, most observers find little joy in Patrik Antonius sluggish start to the year. Seemingly, from the moment the clock ticked down on last year, Antonius has scuffled, remaining in the red for more than a full month already. On Super Bowl Sunday however, Antonius began making the ascent towards profitability in a major way, on a night in which all of the heavy hitters sit down ready to… -
Urindaner Has a Rough Weekend at Poker Tables
8 Feb 2010 | 10:57 amThis past weekend saw the usual insane action at the nosebleed tables over on Full Tilt Poker. As all railbirds know, Full Tilt Poker is the place to go to see all kinds of crazy action. Nowhere else on the internet can someone sit down and watch hundreds of thousands of dollars change hands on the turn of a card. Real life players have Bobby’s Room at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, but that is a room where only the elite are granted entry and there are no observers welcome. On Full Tilt however, the spectators feel like they are part of the action. This weekend, Di “Urindanger” Dang was… -

5 Feb 2010 | 11:56 amOver the past several years, as online poker players have evolved from a sea of fish to a more overall competent player pool, players seek out to get whatever edge they can. Whereas in the past, players sought advice in books from successful players, the technological age has paved the way for virtual teaching methods from online coaches. The established sites seek out highly profitable players and offer them positions within their company to teach other aspiring players the tricks of… -

Poker Pro Brian Townsend Loses Half a Million in Single Session
3 Feb 2010 | 10:58 amWith his month long suspension imposed by Full Tilt Poker in his rear-view mirror, sponsored pro Brian Townsend may be wishing the suspension had lasted longer. This is because the embattled and highly criticized Townsend suffered over a half million dollars during a single session. Townsend decided to step out of his comfort zone and ignored the nosebleed Pot Limit Omaha games that were going on as he opened up some high stakes mixed 7-game poker. When the dust had settled, Townsend had lost a whopping $581,674, probably drawing some applause from some online observers who have been taking…

PokerStars looks to break record again
23 Dec 2009 | 7:32 pmPokerStars is aiming to break their own Guinness World record (again) for the most amount of players in a poker tournament. They beat Full Tilt in July with 65,000 players, and in a few days they hope to surpass even that. The landmark date is Dec. 27 at 11:45 a.m. (Vegas time), the cost is only $1, and $300,000 is guaranteed. First place is guaranteed $50,000. Not bad for a buck. As of this writing, almost 47,000 players have signed up, so keeping pace looks likely they'll achieve a new record. But even if they just tie at 65,000, that leaves a decent overlay of $235,000. Are they really…

Best & Worst Poker Movies
7 Feb 2010 | 10:03 amI finally caught the 2008 poker movie "Deal" on cable this weekend, which starred Burt Reynolds and featured poker pros such as Jennifer Tilly, Shannon Elizabeth, and Antonio Esfandiari. I was hoping it would be added to the my list of the best poker movies, but since it never even was released in theaters in New York, I didn't have a great feeling about it. Still, "Rounders" was a box-office flop when it first came out, and that is undoubtedly my favorite poker movie of all time. See if "Deal" ended up on the list of Best or Worst Poker movies.

Reasons to bet
26 Jan 2010 | 4:19 pmBeing aggressive in poker is vital to becoming successful. Passive play may be rewarded from time to time but on the whole it will be the players who show aggression, by betting, who will be raking in the money at the end of the day. The first and most obvious reason to bet is because you think you have the best hand. You find a pair of aces in the hole and make a bet as you want to win more money with what is certainly the best hand at the moment. But have you thought that by betting you not only do so for value but also for protection? Say you hold a set of queens on a board reading 8KQ… -
Slowplaying
15 Jan 2010 | 5:01 amIn poker the term ’slowplaying’ refers to playing a particular hand much more passively than you usually would in an attempt to deceive your opponent into thinking your hand is much weaker than it is. Used sparingly it can be a very powerful tool that can increase your profits when you play poker, but if overused or used in the wrong circumstances it can be a high-risk and costly move to make. The best time to slowplay is when you have a strong hand on a board that contains no or few draws and your opponent is someone who is aggressive and bets frequently. For example, in a cash… -
Social Networking for Cardsharks
12 Jan 2010 | 4:18 pmIn the beginning, Al Gore invented the Internet. He said let there be social networking, and there was MySpace. And it was good. At least until Facebook came along, then MySpace was crap. There have been many iterations of social networks in the past decade, with Facebook the clear winner in the US. At this point the only way to compete is to spin off into something different, like Twitter, or find a niche. PokerNations found our niche. As poker players, we were never left without a place to find each other on-line. Both MySpace and Facebook have poker communities that are searchable in their… -

The Key To Poker Success Starts On A Gradient!
9 Feb 2010 | 10:59 amHey All, Even though I consider myself to be a highly skilled Sit-N-Go player, I wanted to prove that my high limit strategy also works for low limit sit-n-go's... So I cashed out all of my funds on PokerStars and started with just $20 and my goal is to use the strategy I have created to play $1 SNG's for starters and build up a bankroll... Then as my bankroll rises I will move up the gradient scale and play bigger limits. Last night I played 4 Double or Nothing SNG's in a row and won all of them! The strategy I have created is "newbie" friendly as well as designed for advanced… -

My trip to the EDPC III in Dublin
8 Feb 2010 | 2:25 amFinally it was there! And I was there - back to Dublin again. There are two events every year I try not to miss if possible in any way. One is of course a trip to Vegas during the WSOP and the other one is this event. This year as well as last year this was a very difficult task as I was away on my girlfriends birthday for that event. But even so she isn't into poker she knows how much I love this event. Thanks a lot for that to her.The good news: the weather is much better here in Dublin than in Munich. About 7 degrees celcius and partly cloudy compared to 0 degrees celcius and snow. And I… -

Q9 is the new nuts
9 Jan 2010 | 6:55 amIt's 2010 and in some ways it feels still like 2009 ... and that isn't good. For my first online tournaments I ran a set into a straight and was dominated by 4's (holding A9 and A7 but losing them both times vs. A4).Last night was my first live tournament in 2010 at the CCC in Innsbruck. The first hand was quite good as a loose guy paid me off with my straight. Up 1k from 12k startingstack in the first hand. Nice! Then again card dead for about 3 levels. Down to 10k and back up to 15k.Then I got Aces. I had raised them preflop and had bet every street with at least three quarters of the pot on… -

That was exactly the kind of structure I like. I was able to get my stack up to 24k from the 20k start but also went down all the way to 8k. Some really heartbraking hands - like having to fold a pair of Aces on a very dangerous flop. But still I managed to get my way back to 17k at one point again. That's real Poker! No need to get desperate after you lost just one important hand. A two hour dry streak? Can be…
